   4 The chess archive consists of the content of the directory tree contained
   5 in /pub/chess.  At the top level of this tree are a few informational files
   6 which are briefly described below (the contents of these files will be
   7 updated from time to time):

   9   ICS.getting-started
  10         This is an old introduction to the ICS (internet chess server).
  11         The information will apply somewhat to the current server, but it
  12         has changed a great deal since this was written.

  14         This is a file containing a welcome message and a statement of the
  15         general purpose and intent of the archive.
  16   README.archive-structure
  17         This file.
  18   README-pictures-of-netchessplayers
  19         This tells how you might donate a digitized picture of yourself or
  20         a chessplayer you know into the archive.
  21   README-where_is_ICS.info
  22         This is a 'link' to the file containing the current Internet
  23         locations of the main ICS's (currently, one in USA and one in
  24         Europe.)

  26         This is an informational note related to finding recently uploaded
  27         data.

  29         This is the Chess FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions, and answers).

  31         This is a FAQ for GnuChess, a public domain chess playing program

  36         without descriptions.  Filenames only.  A Index with descriptions
  37         is probably not a possibility at this time because of the limited

 138   SAN_testsuites/       This is a collection of test positions for testing
 139                           the problem solving capabilities of chess
 140                           software.  These files are related to the SAN
 141                           (Standard Algebraic Notation) project, the

 143                           Unix/ directory.  SAN utilities and datafiles
 144                           use PGN.
 145   Unix/                 Software and data for/related to Unix OS.
 146   X/                    Software and data for/related to X-Windows.
 147   chessbits/            Archives of the Chessbits Electronic magazine
 148                           which will probably not come back to life,
 149                           although an occasional ICS-Newsletter seems to

 180                           available to everyone but which you might not
 181                           want to place in a 'permanent' area do to it's
 182                           developmental/experimental nature.
